I've been working in network security for over 15 years, starting with my stint with TIS supporting the Gauntlet firewall. Before that I had supported TCP/IP client and server software at InterCon and that is where I got my start in TCP/IP networking, including UNIX administration and SMTP policy-building. At TIS and CyberGuard I expanded upon this knowledge, working with firewall administration (including developing sendmail and DNS policies) on various platforms. At Digital Boardwalk I took my experience with firewalls and UNIX administration further, as I maintained their firewall and adminned their colocated customer sites (which allowed me to do some web development as well). At SAG I rearchitected their security solution, putting their server farm in a DMZ and consulting with their web developer to help secure their web code.
I joined Foundstone in 2003 as their Senior Support Engineer, and continued on when they were acquired by McAfee as first a Tier III engineer and then a Senior Systems Engineer. I left McAfee in 2008 to take some time to travel and then work with one of their consulting partners. I most recently worked with Tenable Network Security, once more as a Sales Engineer, after spending some time on a DoD contract working with the 93d Signal Brigade to help secure Army installations. Currently, I'm working with a number of small business clients to fill their pentesting and architecture needs. I always enjoy new challenges.
I'm really good at seeing the big picture, and architecting solutions that fit the needs of an organization. I'm also really good at explaining complex "geeky" subjects to non-technical people. I have a tremendous facility for learning new systems, and my hobbies and talents are many and diverse.

I'm a Network Security Analyst living in Yorktown, Virginia, with my husband, our eleven year old son, two cats, two lionhead rabbits, and a purebred Pomeranian. Network Security is my career and hobby; my first love is Linguistics. Other hobbies include music, writing, reading, drawing, knitting, making jewelry, cooking, and video and role playing games (RPG's). I am a soprano with the Virginia Choral Society and the Williamsburg Women's Chorus, and the choir at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Newport News.

Information Security is the practice of securing networked systems, including their applications and data, such that those systems will not be accessible by unauthorized individuals. That's the theory, anyway. In practice, Infosec is a constant game of trying to stay ahead of "hackers" of various types. It's both a science and an art; it's a passion.
The most prominently recognized certification for Information Security professionals is the CISSP® certification. CISSP stands for Certified Information Systems Security Professional, and in order to receive the certification, an individual needs to pass a 250-question exam dealing with the CBK, or Common Body of Knowledge.
The ten domains of the CBK, according to ISC² (the entity that oversees the certification), are:
''Access Control'' - Measures to ensure that unauthorized persons cannot access your data
''Application Development Security'' - Creating secure software
''Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Planning'' - Ensuring your business can continue to run in case of a disaster or breach
''Cryptography'' - Encoding data to make it impossible to read by unauthorized individuals
''Information Security Governance and Risk Management'' - Minimizing risks and vulnerabilities
''Legal, Regulations, Investigations and Compliance'' - How the law and government relates to security, plus forensics
''Operations Security'' - Security of the administration of your systems, such as backup and change control
''Physical (Environmental) Security'' - Locks, entry points, site location
''Security Architecture and Design'' - Designing secure networks and systems
''Telecommunications and Network Security''- Phones and actual network security
